Breakthrough T1D

Breakthrough T1D

Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) is the leading global type 1 diabetes (T1D) research and advocacy organization.

T1D is an autoimmune disease where the pancreas makes little to no insulin. This leads to dependence on insulin therapy and the risk of short and long-term complications, which can include highs and lows in blood glucose levels, damage to the kidneys, eyes, nerves, and heart, and even death. There is no cure.

Since the discovery of insulin in Toronto in 1921, Canada has shone as a global leader in T1D research. The $100M Campaign to Accelerate propels that legacy by investing generous donor dollars in ground-breaking research, advocacy and programs to help the estimated 300,000 Canadians of all ages with T1D live healthier, fuller lives.

Proceeds from Humour Me will help drive the most promising breakthroughs and provide funding to the Canadian researchers who we believe will ultimately find cures for T1D. By supporting this event, you give hope and accelerate a future free from the burdens and constant worries of living with a 24/7 chronic disease.
